To give a few more details, two companies actually sent me rejection emails (automated because I had indicated I was still in school on the application), but I got a call requesting an interview a few weeks later because they had actually read the applications and noticed I was graduating in a few months. I graduated in December, and, although I don't have a job yet (I suspect I'll be receiving an offer soon), I know that I received several interview invitations that I wouldn't otherwise have because I was able to start in January (versus five months later). Companies have job openings arising year-round and fewer students graduate after fall semester. I think graduating in the fall gives you an advantage.
